21 Deluxe presents DJ Marky & XRS Sullivan Room 218
Sullivan St between Bleecker and W 3rd Sts (212-252-2151). Subway: A,
C, E, B, D, F, V to W 4th St. 10pm; $TBA, $12 before midnight.
The Bass:Mint gang, in cahoots with the Agency, aims to "reinvent
the drum 'n' bass wheel in the Big Apple" with a night of, well,
drum 'n' bass. But fine drum 'n' bass it is, with rotating residents Dara,
DB, the Mathematics trio, Know:El, Clever and Sibsonian rinsin' it out
and the occasional top guest dropping in for a visit. And tonight the
crew has outdone itself by booking one of the d'n'b world's best DJ-production
teams—Marky & XRS—to tickle the Technics. The Sao Paolo–based
pair (who are touring in support of the recent In Rotation LP on Inner
Ground Records) inject a healthy dose of Brazilian sounds, jazz and funk
into their beats, smooth enough for them to score Top 40 hits in the U.K.,
but still tough enough to pack a dance floor. Know:El and Direct Drive's
DJ Seoul complete the lineup. We'd get here early for this one, as it's
likely to be packed. For more information, check out www.sullivanroom.com.
